Campervan Insurance

Campervan insurance is financial protection for recreational vehicles, caravans, and motor homes. Campervans fall under the category of motor-homes and insurance covers the cost of alternate accommodation or gives a replacement vehicle if the van is damaged or breaks down. The personal coverage given by the policy insures the luggage, television, stereo, toilet tents and radios. Optional breakdown recovery insurance comes along with campervan insurance. Insurance companies also offer various discounts, such as no claims bonus and limited mileage discounts for those who drive lesser distances. Legal expenses incurred are also compensated by the insurance company.

Choices Available in Campervan Insurance

Campervan insurance depends on the kind of money one has invested in the vehicle. If the vehicle is brand new, a comprehensive policy with a cover ranging from damages to the vehicle, liability, personal injury to legal expenses should be considered. However, if the campervan has been previously owned, then protection from fire, theft and third party claims should be sufficient. Since a campervan is like a motor-home, one carries a lot of personal belongings in it which need to be covered through insurance.

Things to Consider Before Buying Campervan Insurance

  • The personal belongings cover is often limited by the insurance companies. Therefore, it is important to check whether the coverage is sufficient for the things one intends to carry. The exclusions too need to be checked, since more often than not expensive belongings, such as jewelry or satellite televisions, are not included in the cover.
  • Before taking a trip in your campervan, you need to check if the policy gives cover for a replacement vehicle or alternate accommodation. The number of days of stay in a hotel is also limited by the policy and the policy holder should be aware of all these details.
  • There is usually a minimum amount of excess that needs to be paid for by the policyholder. It is therefore advisable to check this amount before buying the policy.
  • If one intends to travel to a different country or countries, one should ensure that the insurance policy holds true in those countries as well.
