In an interview with CNBC, Trump admitted that he was giving the decision “very, very serious thought”, especially since, "there are so many people wanting me to do it."
The president of Trump Organisation also stated that he would be more inclined to run for the White House if the US economy “continues to be bad” and “if the Republicans pick the wrong candidate.”
According to The Daily Mail, Trump came out top of some polls for potential Republican candidates earlier in the year when he had first announced his intentions to run for the presidency.
Just as he did on he previous occasion, Trump once again blamed the problems of the US economy on "foolish leaders" who allowed other countries — namely China and the members of OPEC — to steal jobs and keep oil prices up.
Weighing on the debt ceiling debate, Trump told CNBC that Republicans now had the opportunity to "negotiate a great, great deal, but they can’t be weak."
However, Trump also made it clear that a default by the US should only be in a worst-case scenario.
