According to a 2010 survey of American college freshmen, today’s average college student has the worst emotional health of any student group previously studied before. Some of the main reasons cited for stress in college students have been their academic results, the difficulty in adjusting to college life, and also the question of finance and how they would pay for their college education.

In another recent report published by Time Moneyland, today’s parents can only cover about 16 percent of their kids’ college costs. With a four-year stint at college estimated to cost around US$141,543 in total expenses today — and that number is projected to rise by more than 5 percent every year – it is likely that financial stress will continue to remain a factor in the lives of the average college student.
