Before browsing turns to buying a health insurance policy there are some things you should keep in mind. Short-term insurance policies do not cover any pre-existing health conditions or existing conditions. For example if you suffer from arthritis, asthma or diabetes then none of these conditions will be covered by the Pacificare Health Insurance policy. Short-term insurance is geared towards protection in terms of accidents, illnesses and injuries.
While short-term health insurance is less expensive than a long-term plan it also covers less. That is the drawback of it. It covers only the circumstances that arise out of unexpected situations (such as those described in the previous paragraph). Some short-term plans will accommodate a hospital stay if it is necessary. Some may include prescription drugs and/or home care services while others may not. Make sure that you look over any plans you are thinking about buying very carefully before you fill out the application and especially before you sign anything!
As the name states, short-term health insurance is meant to last for a short period of time. In most cases you can purchase a policy for a period of six months to a year. There are some policies on the market that can be extended after the period has come to an end; however it is very likely that the premium will go up. Use short-term insurance only as a jumping off point to decide what you are going to do for your health insurance needs on a long-term basis.
Be aware that there are instances in which buying a short-term policy can limit your chances for applying for comprehensive coverage at a later date. Before you apply for coverage on a short-term basis find out if it will have a negative impact on applying for a long-term plan through Pacificare Health Insurance in the future.
Before buying any health insurance plan check out the legitimacy of the company selling the policy as well as the plan they are trying to sell you. You can do this by contacting your state insurance commissioner’s office.
