Health insurance is not something that you should refuse to think about. While having Illinois individual health insurance will not guarantee that you never get sick or never hurt yourself, it will provide you with the peace of mind you need to protect your finances and to ensure you get the best medical care possible. Requiring an operation or developing health problems that requires months of treatments could put you into hundreds or even thousands of dollars in debt and it could drain your savings. Prevent this by applying for health insurance right away.

If you do not work at a job that offers a group insurance plan, or if you work two part-time jobs, do seasonal work or are self-employed then an individual health insurance plan is the most appropriate route for you to take for your health insurance needs. Illinois individual health insurance is popular with a great many people who cannot obtain health coverage through their places of employment.

If you own a small business and are a healthy self-employed individual then this type of plan would be ideal for you. These plans can also be used to cover your family members. In most cases an individual health plan will have lower premiums than a group plan. It is important that you apply for a health plan when you are healthy because individual plans are medically underwritten. What this means is that pre-existing conditions in most cases will not be covered by the plan. It is also important to note as you peruse a selection of Illinois individual health insurance plans that they are renewable and non-cancelable. This remains in effect as long as you continue to reside in the service area and as long as you continue to pay your premiums. Once you reach the age of 65 you can then apply for Medicaid.

There are many individual plans that are more than happy to open their coverage up to self-employed individuals. It is important to be aware however that the eligibility requirements do tend to vary from one plan to another. This also depends on the type of business you have be it a limited liability company (or corporation) (LLC), a partnership or a sole proprietorship. When in doubt about anything find out from the insurance company what they have to offer you in terms of health coverage. Make sure however that you are first clear about your work situation and what you need the most from an Illinois individual health insurance plan.
