The forex market is fast paced. Possessing the right trading tools can help traders make sound trading decisions in a timely manner. One of the most critical tools required in the currency market is a forex platform. A forex platform is useful in:

  • capturing data, monitoring oscillations and analyzing changes in currency rates, whether or not you are actively trading.

  • obtaining a comprehensive report on the changes in the currency market.

  • performing online trades in a simple and fast manner.

How Does a Forex Platform Work?

Generally speaking there are two types of forex platform that are available:

Client-based forex platform: This is a software application that can be downloaded and installed on a trader’s computer. The advantage of this platform is that you can access the information that you have downloaded on your system even in the absence of the Internet. However, one of the several drawbacks to using a client-based forex platform is limited accessibility. Traders can only perform trade on the computer in which the platform is installed. Another concern regarding this type of forex software is security. In case your computer system or network is prone to viruses or hacking, there is a high probability of your platform facing the same security problems. Client based software usually requires traders to shell out additional fees for updating their platform continuously.

Web-based forex platform: This platform is located on the brokerage firm’s server. Thus, the firm is responsible for maintaining this platform. The limitation of this platform is that it can only be accessed when you have an Internet connection. However, the advantage of a web-based forex platform is that it can be used to trade anytime and from anywhere. You can log in the software via any browser, such as Firefox and Internet Explorer (IE), and start trading. The brokerage firm also ensures the security of your platform from hackers and viruses.   When choosing a forex platform, you will need to consider its ability to provide you with real time quotes. Real time quotes are critical for forex trading, since getting pertinent information as fast as possible can give you a trading edge.
