Foreign Direct Investment In 2005


The United Nations Center For Trade And Development estimates show that the Global FDI flows has increased to US $ 897 Billions last year. The developed countries have attracted $ 573 Billions, up by 38 percent from the previous year. The share of the developing countries was about 30 percent.

Developing Countries In FDI Race:

FDI inflows to the developing world continued to rise in the year 2005 which is up by 13 percent to estimate $ 274 billions. In the year 2004 the flow of FDI in to the developing nations was 41 percent. The inflow of FDI was to all the Sub-regions.


FDI to the African nations has increased in all the major oil producing countries (including Sudan) as well as in Egypt and South Africa. Over all FDI in to the region reached an estimated new record of $ 29 billion.
Asian Region In FDI Race:

FDI flows to Asia and Oceania have increased about 11 percent to an estimated $ 173 Billion. FDI to China as a fast developing country remained stable around $ 60 Billion.

FDI to the republic of Korea and to Malaysia fell. The large increases were marked in the countries like Hong Kong, Indonesia and Thailand. The sharpest growth was marked in the regions of West Asia where FDI shot up by 50 percent.

FDI flow to the Latin America and Caribbean Continued their upward trend by rising 5 percent to an estimated $ 72 billion.


In South-East Europe and common wealth of Independent states (CIS), FDI inflows reached an estimated $ 50 Billion as a result of the more than doubling of FDI in to Russia.
