Renewable energy and energy efficiency are two related concepts. Energy efficiency essentially describes the idea of using latest technology to minimize the requirement of energy to produce a certain level of output. The principal objective of all energy efficiency programs is conservation of energy. The increasing demand of fossil fuels has been an issue of major concern for quite some time now. The sources of fossil fuels like oil, coal, and natural gas are non-renewable by nature. Efficient use of energy brings about a number of additional benefits. It lowers the investment requirement for energy infrastructure. Cost of renewable energy is lower than the fossil fuels. Effective application of the policies of energy efficiency adds to consumer welfare and increases competitiveness of the global fuel market.

International organizations like the International Energy Agency, the United Nations Environment Program and the like initiate a number of policy measures to promote the concepts of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The use of renewable energy and the effective application of energy efficiency strategies promise to make our environment clean and green.
