The energy conservation process in India has been dealt with importance by the national government. The energy conservation process and the process of improving energy efficiency in India are developing at a slow pace but the government is trying to introduce new strategies for speeding up this process. There are a number of international organizations that are also involved in this process and helping the government to materialize the energy conservation plans. The government has introduced new building codes in the country. At the same time, eco-labels on the electric appliances are also a new feature in the country. Along with all these, the authorities have also organized a number of contests and public campaigns on the topic to raise the awareness level in the general public about the factors like energy conservation and energy efficiency.

India is in a developing phase and its economy is showing good growth prospects. The country is trying to improve its industrial sector and with every new development in the sector, the demand for energy is going up. On the other hand, major part of the existing industries in the country uses old machineries and production procedures that are increasing the amount of energy consumption. The public buildings in the country as well as the residential settings are also consuming energy heavily. At the same time, the growing population of the country is another reason of this growing demand for energy. According to an estimation of the IEA or International Energy Agency, the demand for energy would be double in the coming 20 years. Along with this, the level of pollution is also expected to increase heavily in the coming years.

There are a number of international organizations that have come forward to support the initiatives of the government to promote energy efficiency in the country. Some of these are the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank, United Nations Foundation Alliance to Save Energy and so on. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency India is also playing a major role in the process. The national government, along with other organizations, has planned to provide support to the businesses sector so that they can reduce their energy consumption. At the same time the Energy Service Companies or ESCOs are also promoted in the country. These companies provide free services to the business sector for improving energy efficiency and in the later stage, a portion of the savings made from the reduced energy costs are charged as the fees.

The initiatives are expected to reduce energy consumption in the country. The government as well as the whole globe is waiting to see the impact of these efforts.
