A temperate climate reduces the energy needs of the nation. As mentioned in the Natural Resources section, in the dawning age of renewable energy, certain climatic conditions will become energy and revenue generators - particularly predictable sunlight and wind, fast flowing rivers and geothermal energy. Advanced economies have tended to focus on reducing pollution (they have the luxury to do so). Even though they consume more energy per capita, they tend to move that pollution away from populated areas as much as possible. Emerging market countries are still in their growth phases and have more polluted cities. Countries closer to the boundaries of the earth's plates tend to experience more natural disasters.
