Nepal is among the poorest and least developed countries internationally with almost one-third of its population living under the poverty line. Agriculture, fisheries and farming are the mainstays of its economy. Industrial activity mainly involves the processing of agricultural, agrarian, fisheries and farming products, including pulses, jute, sugarcane, tobacco, and grain. Nepal has considerable scope for exploiting its potential in hydropower and tourism and transportation, areas of recent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) interest.
