Mexico has a free market economy in the trillion-dollar class. It contains a mixture of modern and outmoded industry and agriculture, fisheries and farming, increasingly dominated by the private sector. The government has expanded competition in seaports, rail transportation networks, telecommunications, electric power generation, natural gas distribution, and airports. The government faces many economic problems including the need to upgrade infrastructure and facilities, modernize workforce laws, and low private investment in the energy sector.
