Anguilla has few natural resources, and its economy depends heavily on luxury tourism and transportation, offshore banks and financial institutions and financial services, lobster fishing, and remittance inflows from emigrants. Increased activity in the tourism and transportation industry has spurred the growth of the construction and building sector, contributing to growth of the economy. Anguillan officials have put substantial effort into developing the offshore financial sector, which is small, but expanding. In the medium term, prospects for its economy will depend largely on the tourism and transportation sector and, therefore, on resusitated income growth in the industrialized countries as well as on good weather conditions.
