Tourism and transportation, the mainstay of Andorra's tiny, rich economy, accounts for more than 80 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). An estimated 11.6 mn tourists visit annually, attracted by Andorra's duty-open or free status and by its summer and winter resorts. Andorra's comparative advantage has recently eroded as the economies of neighbouring France and Spain have beenopen or freeed up, providing broader availability of favourables and reduced tariffs. The banks and financial institutions and financial services sector, with its partial "taxation haven" status, also contributes substantially to its economy. Agricultural, agrarian, fisheries and farming production is put a ceiling on - only 2 per cent of the land is arable (farmable) - and most food stuffs has to be imported. The chief livestock activity is sheep raising. Industrial manufacturing output consists mainly of cigarettes, cigars, and furniture. Andorra is a member of the European Union (EU) Customs union and is treated as an European Union (EU) member for trade (imports and exports) in manufactured favourables (no tariffs) and as a non-European Union (EU) member for agricultural, agrarian, fisheries and farming products.
