Barclays Debit Card

The Barclays Debit Card refers to the different types of debit cards issued by the Barclays Bank to its customers who possess current accounts. The several Barclays Debit Cards primarily enable consumers to draw cash from ATMs as and when required and also to pay for commodities and services without having to carry cash, in a convenient and secure manner.

The two major types of Barclays Debit Card provided by Barclays Bank for the convenience of its customers are as follows :

  • Barclays Deferred Debit Card - This Debit Card provided by Barclays Bank PLC enables the consumers to avail cash machines numbering much more than half a million displaying the VISA sign spread over the world, in addition to clearing the bills for commodities and services at over 18 million associated mercantile outlets across the globe. The Deferred Barclays Debit Card is available in Euros as well as US dollars and Euros. While opening an account the prospective account holder can nominate a maximum of nine supplementary cardholders including eight for joint accounts. Only applicants who have attained 18 years are permitted the services of the Deferred Barclays Debit Card subject to the fulfillment of terms and conditions required by the Bank.

  • Barclays Connect Card, this Barclays Debit Card is actually meant for exclusive use within UK as it is only available in Sterling. Barclays, Woolwich or any other cash machine in the UK call for no charges upon the usage of this Debit Card. A nominal 2.75 percent charge for the sterling conversion on the statement of the transaction including handling costs levied by Barclays and Visa processing fees if any, that may occur while using the card overseas are attached with this Card.

    However using the Barclays Debit Card at ATMs that serve the Global Alliance comprising Westpac, Scotiabank, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank and Bank of America involve no charges.

    Barclays Debit Card has recently been converted into a new carbon-neutral debit card that is being delivered to existent debit card users when the current Barclays Debit Card possessed by them expires.

    All the usages pertaining to the Barclays Debit Card are free except the following instances :

    • Drawing sterlings anywhere other than a Barclays branch or an ATM which involve a minimal 2 percent charge that ranges between £1.50 and £4.50.

    • A minimal charge of 2 percent ranging between £1.50 and £4.50 for acquiring travellers' cheques or foreign currency at places apart from branches of Barclays Bank, the official website of Barclays Bank or via the Barclays Travel Line.
