The Target check card is a form of debit card issued by Target Corporation and withdraws money directly from your checking account. It works by synchronizing your account with itself and offers a cash back facility of up to $40.

History: Target Check Card

The Target check card was launched in October 2007 by the Target National Bank and has, ever since, gained popularity amongst Target shoppers. Although it does not offer the 10% initial discount that other Target Red Cards offer, it still facilitates cashless shopping along with PIN number safety.

How to Apply: Target Check Card

A consumer can download the application form from the company’s official website or pick it at a Target store. One needs to mail the application to Target’s corporate office.

Alternatively, you need to carry photo identity to apply at the store. People at the desk usually ask for information such as checking account number and SSN and update your information in their records. Once your information gets verified, a new card is issued to you.

While using the card, one needs to be careful of the fact that a return payment may attract a fine as well. Therefore, ensure that the account has money when you swipe your card.

The penalty: (Return Payment Fee)

The fine varies from state to state, such as:

  • $40 in FL,DE, MS
  • $35 in MD, VA,CA (except for first return)
  • $30 in AK, AL, GA,FL (if EFT amount is $50.01-$300), IA, MN, KS, MT, SC, OH, SD, TX, TN, WY
  • $25 in AR,AZ, CA (first return only), FL, DC, IL, KY, ME,LA, MA, MO,MI, NE, NH, NV, NJ, NC, NM, ND, OK, RI, VT, WA, WI, WV
  • $20 in CO, HI, CT, ID, NY, IN, UT, PA

Using a Target check card has several benefits, such as:

  • Every dollar earns you reward points. Once you collect 1000 reward points, you qualify for a 10% discount on your shopping.
  • Target donates up to 1% of your shopping cost to the K-12 school of your choice.
  • Target check card accounts can be managed online.
