National Aluminium or National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is a major name in aluminium industry of India. It is ranked in #1478 position in 2008 Forbes Global 2000 list. National Aluminium has played a major role in development of Indian aluminium industry. National Aluminium has played a stellar role as far as production of aluminium in India is concerned. Over years, it has been producing aluminium as per international requirements and standards. This has provided a technological advantage to India.
Brief history National Aluminium was established in 1981. It was created by Indian national government as a public sector organization. In 1993, National Aluminium entered into a co-operation project with Hydro Aluminium AG of Norway in order to conduct feasibility studies.
Products and services National Aluminium offers its products and services in several categories like aluminium metal, special products, alumina and hydrate, rolled products and Zeolite – A. In aluminium metal section, National Aluminium offers products like ingots, wirerods, sows, alloy wire rods, billets and cast strips.
In alumina and hydrate section, National Aluminium offers alumina hydrate and calcined alumina. Specialty hydrate or alumina makes up special products section of National Aluminium. Aluminium rolled products are available in rolled product section of National Aluminium.
Financials In 2007, sales of National Aluminium amounted to nearly $1.37 billion and it earned profits of around $0.55 billion. Assets held by National Aluminium were worth about $2.20 billion and its market value stood at around $7.46 billion.
Awards and recognition National Aluminium has won Niryat Shree Award in two consecutive years. This award was conferred on them for financial years 2000-01 and 2001-02 by Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) and it was provided for excellence in exports.
In financial year 1999-2000, National Aluminium was awarded Best Safety Performance Award by CII. It has also won State Award for Best Occupational Health Centre in 1998. It has been conferred with Special Commendation under Golden Peacock Environment Management Award 1998 Scheme. This award was given by World Environment Foundation.
Financial crisis National Aluminium has been forced to reduce prices of its products three times in November, 2008. This has been brought about by global financial crisis that has been affecting various industries across world.
