The department of economics at the Birkbeck College is one of the premier institutes in the country. Department of mathematics and statistics are the parts of the department of economics. The school provides both post graduate and under graduate programme in the areas of economics and statistics.

- MSc Applied Statistics and Operational Research
- MSc Applied Statistics
- MSc Applied Statistics and Stochastic Modelling
The institute achieved excellent ranking of 23/24 in the 2001 QAA (Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education) Subject Review.
In the year 2001, the Department received an excellent ranking of '5 'in the RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) fir its quality.
