Major Highlights

The Railway Budget 2007-08 has come up with following major announcements:

Year of Cleanliness:
The Year 2007-08 is declared to be the year of cleanliness in the Indian Railway Budget for the year 2007-08. In the budget speech, the Railway Minister said, that special campaign to be launched for ensuring cleanliness and hygiene at station premises, in passenger trains, railway lines and waiting rooms etc.

Capacity of Passenger Coaches To Increase:

The Indian railways have decided for starting production of new design coaches from the year 2007-08.

Plan Outlay Increased by 32%:

The Indian Railway budget has come up with an annual plan outlay of Rs. 31,000 crores for the Annual Plan of 2007-08. The outlay has increased in the current year by 32 per cent and considered to be the largest Annual Plan for Indian Railway so far.

No Fair Hikes:

The Railway Budget 2007-08 has come up with no fare hikes. The ministry of Railway has declared small fair cuts in the budget.

Eight New Garib Raths:

Railway Minister Shri Lalu Prasad in his Budget speech announced 8 new Garib Raths:
  1. Secunderabad-Yesvantpur Garib Rath Express (3 days in a week)
  2. Jaipur-Bandra (Terminus) via Ahmedabad Garib Rath (3 days in a week)
  3. Kolkata-Patna Garib Rath Express (3 days in a week)
  4. Bhubaneswar-Ranchi Garib Rath Express (3 days in a week)
  5. Thiruvananthapuram-Lokmanya Tilak (Terminus) Garib Rath Express (2 days in a week)
  6. Kolkata-Guwahati Garib Rath Express (2 days in a week)
  7. New Delhi-Dehradun Garib Rath Express (3 days in a week)
  8. Raipur-Lucknow Jn. Garib Rath Express (2 days in a week)

32 New Trains To Be Announced:

Keeping in view the demand for new trains, the Railway Minister has declared 32 new trains in the Railway Budget 2007-08.

  1. Shri Chhatrapati Sahu Maharaj Terminus, Kolhapur-Ahmedabad Express (Weekly)
  2. Howrah-Rampurhat Express (Daily)
  3. Jhansi-Kanpur Express (Daily)
  4. Pune-Gorakhpur Express (Weekly)
  5. Delhi-Shamli DEMU (Daily)
  6. Bapudham Motihari-Varanasi (3 Days a week)
  7. Bikaner-Jaisalmer Express (Two pairs) (Via Kolayat) (Daily)
  8. Mumbai-Aurangabad Janshatabdi Express (6 Days in a Week)
  9. Bhagalpur-New Delhi Express (Weekly)
  10. Bijapur-Bagalkot Express (6 Days in a Week)
  11. Allahabad-Mathura Express (Daily)
  12. Nasik-Pune Express (Daily)
  13. Coimbatore-Nagercoil Express via Madurai (Daily)
