The UOB Bank or United Overseas Bank Limited was founded on August 6, 1935 by Datuk Wee Kheng Chiang along with a group of seven businessmen in Singapore. Initially, it was called the United Chinese Bank and it catered primarily to the Fujian community. The bank’s name was changed to UOB in 1965.

The Staff Volunteerism programme was introduced in 2007. Another programme called the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk was initiated to raise funds for some specific beneficiary such as, Very Special Arts Singapore (VSAS). The VSAS offers art programmes for those with special needs. In recognition of the UOB’s contributions to the arts, it was awarded the National Arts Council‘s Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award for four successive years since 2005.
