The Bank of Scotland is a Scottish financial services institution that was established in 1695. It is UK’s second oldest surviving bank, after the Bank of England. In 2007, the Bank of Scotland became the Bank of Scotland plc, as part of HBOS.  On 2009, HBOS became a part of the Llyods Banking Group, following an acquisition of HBOS by Llyods TSB.

The Bank of Scotland was also Europe’s first bank that printed its own banknotes. It continues to print its own sterling banknotes in consonance with legal requirements that also permit some UK banks to print and issue currency.
