Gabon, officially known as the Gabonese Republic, is a country in west central Africa. Gabon is more prosperous compared to its neighbors and its per capita four times the average for Sub-Saharan Africa. During the 1990s, the devaluation of the CFA franc put Gabon in a tumultuous position as the country struggled to pay its overseas debt. However, France and the IMF have provided further loans to take the Gabonese economy out of troubled waters.
