Equatorial Guinea, officially known as the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, is a country in West Middle Africa. The discovery of large oil reserves in 1996 and its subsequent exploitation have contributed to a remarkable increase in government revenues. As per 2004 estimates, Equatorial Guinea is the third largest oil producer in the Sub-Saharan Africa. The country has a per capita GDP of more than US$30,000, which was as of 2004 sixth highest in the world.
