Banque du Liban or the Central Bank of Lebanon is the Central Bank of the country was established in the year 1963. Since then the bank has been operating independently with autonomy in the financial and administrative spheres.

The Bank is operating with following missions:

  • Ensuring monetary and financial stability
  • Functioning the banking system smoothly
  • Developing the markets
  • Making easier payment system in the country

The whole administration of the bank is handed over to the Governor. The Governor is assisted by four Vice-Governors and the Central Council. The Governor is vested with extensive authority to manage the bank. The Finance Minister appoints the Governor for a six-year term.

The Central Council is responsible for formulating the monetary and credit policies of the bank. The Council consists of the Governor, as chairman, the four Vice-Governors, the Director General of Ministry of Finance and the Director General of Ministry of economy and Trade.
