The Bank of Namibia is the Central Bank of Namibia. The bank was founded on the basis of a provision in Article 128 of the Namibian constitution. The bank of Namibia is owned by the Government of the country.

 

The bank has been operating with the objectives of controlling the money supply so as to maintaining stability in the country's economy. Important functions of the bank are as follows:

  • Ensuring the perfect circulation of notes and currencies
  • Rendering banking services to the Government
  • Managing the commercial banks in the right direction
  • Providing information to the public on bank's functioning

With regards to the management of the bank, a Board of Directors, comprising the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Permanent Secretary of Finance, one member of the public service and four other members from the public, governs the Bank in the country.
