The Bank of Jamaica is the central bank of Jamaica started its operation in the year 1961. It was established through the Bank of Jamaica Law (1960). The bank is fully owned by the Government of the country.

Important responsibilities of the bank are as follows:

  • Controlling the circulation of notes and coins smoothly
  • Custodian of Country's Foreign Exchange Reserves
  • Maintaining the supply of credit
  • Developing the money and capital market
  • Acting as a banker to the Government.

The Central Bank of Jamaica is at the center of the domestic financial system and is responsible for promoting and maintaining the stability of the financial system.
