The first central bank in Albania was set up way back in the year 1913. The year 1925 is regarded as the first year of operation of the bank in the name of the National Bank of Albania.

The Bank of Albania is the National Bank of the Republic of Albania. The control of the Bank of Albania is total state owned.

Important functions of the bank are as follows:
