The total Plan size for the year 2007-08 was agreed at Rs. crores. 2100 crores. This includes additional special Central assistance of Rs.380 crores for projects of importance to the State.
Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia complimented the State Government for performance in some social sectors. Substantial improvement has been noticed in education and health sector. He said growth in agriculture sector is quite impressive. Market linkages need to be improved to supplement growth in the horticulture sector. The State was also advised to give focused attention to promoting Art & Craft.
The State Government was advised to evolve a long-term road map for development trengthening of State Highways and explore possibility of public private partnership in he Sector.
It was also suggested that State should work towards encouraging high value ourism.
Briefing the Commission on Plan performance of the State, the Chief Minister, Shri Virbhadra Singh said social sector is being given priority as nearly 90 per cent of the population was still rural based. Public private partnership has been successfully tried in education and health sectors, He said economy was being opened for private sector in a manner that sub-serves the interest of the local and leads to creation of productive employment.
The Chief Minister pointed out that during next financial year highest priority will be given to social services sector, which will account for nearly 42 per cent share of the Plan size. There will be focused attention to improving water supply,sanitation. Other sectors of priority would include transport & communication and irrigation.
He said during the Eleventh Plan period the State would work towards accelerating pace to harness hydro power potential, improved productivity in agriculture and promote tourism bio-diversity and accelerate the process of raising income of the masses.
