World conference on agrarian reform and rural development was organized in Porto Alegre of Brazil from 7 March to 10 March, 2006. The primary objective of the conference was to assist the poor people of rural areas of the world by increasing their access to land and other necessary resources.
Almost three fourth of the world's total population is poor and most of them are living in rural areas and one way or the other, they depend upon the agricultural production for maintaining their livelihood.
The world conference on agrarian reform and rural development principally targets these people to discuss their problems including lines of credit, access to land, agricultural inputs and market.
